History

First lit as the first lighthouse in Tohoku region in 1876
Installthe first fog–bell in Japan in 1877
Stopped operation of a fog-bell and established the first fog-horn in Japan in 1879
Designated as a lighthouse for lovers in 2016
Designated as a Registered tangible cultural property in 2017

 

Feature

The highest brick-built lighthouse in Japan
Double cylindrical structure of brick wallブdesignedby Brunton, British engineer
The area around the lighthouse is famous for its beautiful scenery wherewild horses called “Kandachime” which arestrong against cold, are grazing around the lighthouse
